President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared July 28 a public holiday on the occasion of Independence Day.
According to the President's Office, this decision was taken as the government plans to conduct many activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' Independence.
This year's Independence Day, July 26, falls on a Saturday. The government usually declares one public holiday on the occasion.
But following Muizzu's decision, the government will reopen on Tuesday, July 29, this year.
