New members have been elected to three vacant seats in the Maldives Media Council (MMC).
The MMC by-election was held at the Social Center this morning. Two members representing the media and one member representing the public were elected.
Mohamed Muzayyin Nazim from Dhauru and Leevan Ali Nasir from Adhadhu were elected to represent the media.
Muzayyin won 50 votes while Leevan secured 48 votes. The third candidate Mariyam Milzam Masood received four votes.
Meanwhile, Hawwa Wajdha was elected to the MMC to represent the public. She won 38 votes while her opponent Nahdha Adam got 12 votes.
Members were elected to the MMC in an election held in December, but three members resigned, prompting a by-election.
Voting in the by-election was postponed twice while candidates were given additional opportunities to submit applications.
