The number of hearings and cases concluded by the Supreme Court this year has dropped compared to last year, according to statistics available on the court's website.
In the first five months of 2024, the top court concluded 25 cases, compared to just 15 cases during the same period in 2025.
The number of hearings has also fallen to a record low. There were 47 hearings in the first two months of 2025, compared to 11 in the following three months.

- February - 25 hearings
- March - 4 hearings
- April - 2 hearings
- May - 5 hearings
The number of hearings held by the Supreme Court decreased due to the abrupt suspension of three justices. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) suspended Justices Husnu Suood, Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir on February 28.
The JSC suspended the three judges in connection with a case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). But the anti-corruption watchdog has not disclosed any details about the investigation.
Shortly after his suspension, Husnu Suood resigned from the bench. In his resignation letter, the veteran legal expert accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Attorney General (AG) Ahmed Usham of intimidating and influencing judges.
Azmiralda and Mahaz were dismissed by the parliament on May 18 after claiming that an ethical matter was proven. They were not allowed to defend themselves and due process was not followed in their dismissal.
