Police have launched investigations after a teacher allegedly hit a child who had undergone brain surgery on the head with a steel bottle.
Addu understands that the incident occurred in a school in Addu city. The child's family said the teacher hit his head while in the classroom.
"He had his head down on the desk in the classroom when the teacher used a steel water bottle to hit him on the head," the family told Adhadhu.
The family said tests are being conducted to determine the details of the injuries sustained by the child.
"Tests are being done, there is a test today," the family stated.
Police confirmed that they were investigating a case of alleged assault by a teacher at an Addu school.
“A case of alleged assault by a teacher at a school in Addu has been reported to police on May 12, 2025,” police said.
The injured child had undergone major surgery for a condition called sagittal craniosynostosis. It is a condition where the sagittal suture in a baby's skull closes prematurely.
Treating craniosynostosis usually involves surgery to unlock and bones and reshape the skull. The child involved in the case had also undergone surgery.
Police have not yet said whether any arrests were made in connection with the incident.
