Galolhu South MP Meekail Naseem has said today's parliament sitting was cancelled after planning to summon Home Minister Ali Ihusaan for questioning over the ruling party's membership fraud.
According to the MP, the parliament's Assistant Secretary General Hanan Hussain contacted him last night to check whether he wishes to proceed with the questioning.
"I told her, yes, I want to question him. She told me it will be on the agenda for today," Meekail said.
But she later called and informed that there would be no sitting today.
The People's Majlis Secretariat did not disclose the reason for cancelling the sitting. The parliament rules require three sessions per week. It is usually held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
But the parliament has not held regular sittings during the ongoing session except for last week.
Meekail requested to summon Ihusaan for questioning on January 14. According to the parliament rules, ministers must be summoned within 14 days of receiving the notice.
