A social media activist has accused former deputy youth minister and senior official of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Malsha Shareef, of accessing the Department of National Registration (DNR) database to disclose his personal information.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Malsha publicized a man's photo and address and accused him of using an anonymous X account to spread false information about her.
Activist Adam Mohamed told Adhadhu that Malsha had used his expired ID card photo. He said the photo will only be accessible through the DNR database.
"Malsha has done something very wrong. I would have given a photo if she had asked me for it. This is not an anonymous account. It has a link to my blog and the blog has a link to my Instagram," Adam stated
He added that he chooses not to share his personal photos on X.
"It is very sad that senior government officials are using the information in the DNR for their own purposes. The public's personal information should not be stolen," Adam said.
This is not the first such allegation against government officials.
The government previously acknowledged that the DNR database had been accessed to boost the ruling party's membership.
Private information, including photos, was stolen from the database during the People's National Congress (PNC) membership drive.
Leaked photos showed political appointees inside the DNR office, filling out membership forms with forged signatures and fingerprints.
