Male, Maldives: Mozambican midfielder Ricardo Mondlane has joined Maldives league champions, Maziya Sports and Recreation.
The Green Boys, confirmed that Mondlane, 25, will be part of their squad for the upcoming season. The Green Boys are also set to make further foreign signings to strengthen their team.
Mondlane, a 25-year-old defensive midfielder, has spent most of his career in Portugal, gaining valuable experience across various levels of Portuguese football.
A versatile and dynamic player, Mondlane is expected to add strength and depth to Maziya's squad, which is aiming to compete for every title this season.
Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has amended the foreign player rule, starting from this season, now allowing only three foreign players per team, compared to the previous six, with one of them required to be Asian.
Maziya is coached by Spanish tactician Luisma Hernandez, who brings extensive experience from his time in European, South Korean, Uzbek, and Kuwaiti leagues.
Luisma has also worked with elite academies like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Maziya will play in the season opener is scheduled for April 8th, when they will face Club Eagles, according to the latest season calendar shared by FAM with the clubs. Maziya is the most successful team in season opening, Charity Shield matches, they won it five times.
