The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has denied stopping investigations into complaints against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
"We can deny that the President's cases were filed," an ACC media official told Adhadhu.
But the official declined to comment further.
The ACC is investigating more than 20 cases against Muizzu.
In 2022, the ACC reported that it was investigating six cases against Muizzu, who was the Male' Mayor at the time.
On February 13, 2022, the ACC said in response to a letter from an individual that some cases were related to Muizzu's tenure as Housing Minister.
These include a case of awarding the Hiyaa project to the highest bidder, a case of corruption in the flat list and a case of awarding projects to companies for personal gain during his tenure as minister.
Meanwhile, Adhadhu reported in 2023 that large amounts of money was deposited into Muizzu's own account by foreign companies.
In his defence, Muizzu claimed the money was owed to him as rent for a rowhouse leased to a foreign company.
Cases connected to Muizzu and other senior officials of his administration have been pending in the ACC for years, but the corruption watchdog has not made any progress.
Prosecutor General (PG) Abbas Shareef recently ordered the ACC to expedite its investigations.
