Former police officer Mohamed Rishwan has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) said Rishwan was appointed as the MD and Board Director of MPL.

Rishwan served as the Deputy CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) during the government of President Abdulla Yameen. He previously served as the hospital's Deputy Director of Operations.

During the government of former President Mohamed Nasheed, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police but later resigned.

Former MD of MPL Mohamed Wajeeh was dismissed on Sunday. The PCB did not disclose the reason for his dismissal.

There have been significant changes to some senior government positions recently. This includes the dismissal of former Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu also decided to merge the Tourism Ministry with the Environment Ministry.
