The Finance Ministry has announced for interested contractors to build 12,000 housing units in 57 islands across the Maldives.
An announcement published in the government gazette, on behalf of the Housing Ministry, said the housing units will be built under four categories.
Fifty housing units will be built under the first category and only local companies can apply for projects.
In the second category, 51 to 150 housing units will be built in selected islands. Local companies and international joint venture companies can apply in this category.
Around 200 to 250 housing units will be built in the third category while more than 300 housing units will be built in the fourth category.
Both local companies and international companies can apply for projects under the third and fourth categories.
A list of islands selected for the housing projects was attached with the Finance Ministry's announcement.
According to the Finance Ministry, the 12,000 housing unit project will be carried out on a design and build basis and the contracts announced under the project will be carried out in accordance with international competitive bidding and national competitive bidding rules.
Special procurement notices for contracts open to national and international competitive bidding through a pre-qualification process will be announced in February.
Eligible and interested candidates are requested to email tender@finance.gov.mv to be included in the mailing list for an invitation to pre-qualification.
The state budget for this year has allocated MVR 1.5 billion for the government's housing projects across the country.
