Suspended State Minister transferred to Finance Ministry

Suspended State Minister of Tourism Mohamed Nihad has been transferred as the State Minister of Finance.

The former MP was suspended after he accused the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) of planning a terrorist attack on tourist resorts.

Speaking at a rally of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) in December, Nihad accused the MDP of planning an attack to coincide with the arrival of the two millionth tourist of 2024.

The ruling party later issued a statement saying that no political party in the country would do such a thing.

Adhadhu can confirm that the suspended State Minister has been transferred to the Finance Ministry. He started reporting to work on January 23.

He was one of the 13 MPs who left the MDP at the end of the MDP government in 2023 and joined the PNC.
