Indian authorities have seized 12 kg of drugs en route to Maldives and detained four suspects.

The operation was carried out by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday.

According to Indian media, the drugs were seized when two men on a motorcycle took the package to the port.

DRI detained the two motorcyclists, a boat crew member who assisted them and an officer of India's Central Industrial Security Force responsible for port security.

The two motorcyclists were carrying a bag each with 12 cans inside which later tested positive for cannabis.

According to the DRI, the street value of one kilogram of cannabis in the international market is INR 10 million. The total street value of the seized drugs is INR 120 million or MVR 21 million.
