The National Disaster Management Authority of Maldives (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to 22 people following the fire at Mahchangolhi Spring River house this morning.
The NDMA said 33 people from 10 households needed temporary shelter due to smoke and damage to the building.
The NDMA provided temporary shelter to 14 Maldivians and eight foreigners from five households while a family with foreign nationals arranged their own temporary accommodation.
In addition, 11 foreigners were assisted by their employers.
The fire also damaged a Fruit Tree store warehouse located in the building. The neighbouring Mahchangolhi Kelaage was also damaged.
Several windows on the third floor of the Kelaage were smashed and some items in the apartment were also damaged while some of the residents of Kelaage were given temporary shelter.
