The Cabinet decided yesterday to restrict every expatriate worker in the Maldives to a single mobile SIM card.
The decision was reached during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting. According to the President's Office, the measure aims to ensure that legal action can be taken against individuals who register SIM cards that are smuggled into prisons.
The Cabinet also decided that in the event an expatriate's SIM card is damaged or lost, a replacement will only be issued through a process involving a police report.
Furthermore, the meeting concluded with a commitment to undertake necessary reforms to make the Maldives a country with one of the lowest rates of pre-trial detention for individuals held during investigations without sentencing.
Additionally, the Cabinet resolved to seek assistance from relevant authorities to upgrade the Home for People with Special Needs in Kaafu Guraidhoo, transforming it into a modern facility offering comprehensive services.
