Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has revealed that 48 police officers faced disciplinary action and 17 were dismissed till September this year.
Speaking at a press conference at the President's Office, Shujau said action was being taken against officers in connection to submitted cases. He added that information on these cases will be made public in the future.
"As of September this year, 48 police officers have been investigated and action taken against them, of whom 17 have been dismissed," Shujau said.
He said a large number of officers are being trained to introduce professional officers into service as part of the efforts to strengthen the police institution
More than 360 policemen are already undergoing training in Addu and Vaanee, he stated.
Shujau said the institution has more than 500 recruits (untrained policemen) and work is being done to ensure that they are given the necessary training before the start of next year.
Meanwhile, Adhadhu has learned that the Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan's position has been changed.
Shifan has been transferred from the post of Head of the Office of the Commissioner to the post of Head of the Service Development Directorate.
Police said the change was brought under the new structure, but Adhadhu understands that Shujau was unhappy with posts made by Shifan on a messaging platform.
With the change, Moosa Ali, who was the Head of Service Development, has now been appointed as the Head of the Office of the Commissioner.
Shifan is also the police spokesperson. However, he has not been removed from the post but sources say he is set to be removed soon.
