Chief Superintendent of Police Ismail Shameem Adam has been appointed as the head of the Directorate of Intelligence.
Adhadhu understands that Shameem, who was the deputy head of the Directorate of Intelligence, was appointed as the head on October 1.
Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau told Adhadhu that Shameem was recently appointed as the head of intelligence with the change in the operations.
"For the convenience of operations, he will do everything on a day-to-day basis. He has been appointed as the Director General to facilitate my work. All the directorate command heads will report to the commissioner. The commissioner will oversee," Shujau said.
No officer below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police has ever been appointed as the Head of Intelligence. However, some have worked as acting heads.
Meanwhile, major changes have been brought to the police Intelligence Directorate including the dismissal of nearly 30 officers, some of them department heads.
In November last year, Shameem was appointed as the acting head of intelligence. The post was previously held by Superintendent of Police Fareed Ismail.
Shameem was dismissed from the police force in 2021. However, the Civil Court ruled that the police board's decision to dismiss him was wrong.
Shameem had previously worked in the Intelligence Directorate. However, he was transferred to another department due to some issues.
