Police are investigating a forgery case involving Imam Abdul Jaleel Ismail of the Salman Mosque who was appointed at the level of a deputy minister.
In a message sent to the media, police said the case was reported on September 19.
The case was reported by the family of Hashim Mohamed, 44, who was found dead inside a house in Maafannu district of Male' on January 2, 2022.
The family accuses Jaleel of forging documents to take over Hashim's businesses. They have also raised suspicions over the circumstances of Hashim's death.
His death was previously investigated by the police, but the outcome of the investigation is unclear.
Last week, a clash occurred between Hashim's family and Jaleel inside a shop in Male'. A video of the incident circulated on social media and police said they would investigate the incident as well.
Police said Hashim's family and Jaleel have been advised to take matters related to property to the Civil Court.
