The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided humanitarian assistance to 57 people, including 37 Maldivians, who were affected by a fire at Henveiru Dhoohimerige on Monday.

NDMA provides either temporary shelter or financial aid to people affected by disasters.

The authority's media officer said financial assistance was given to all those affected by the fire.

The fire in Henveiru Dhoohimerige was contained but spread for a second time on Monday evening. The fire broke out in a Gaamagu Cafe located at the house.

Reports say foreign workers resided on the upper floor of Gaamagu Cafe at the time of the fire incident. A Maldivian woman and a foreign woman were treated in ADK Hospital, but have now been discharged.

Meanwhile, Local Government Minister Adam Shareef said on Tuesday that the authorities have started to demolish the building after the fire incident.

He said the ministry was working to demolish the building as it could pose a danger to the public. The minister estimated that the work would be completed within 3-4 days.
