Three suspects have been arrested for allegedly earning MVR 2 million by circulating nude photos and videos through Telegram channels.
Zubair Ali, 45, Nasif Alif, 46, and Ismail Rabeeh, 29, were arrested in an operation by the Police cyber crime center.
Police said 3,468 people had subscribed to their Telegram channels.
The suspects operated nine accounts and the nude photos and videos were circulated on 571 channels. The channels and accounts have been seized by the police.
The channels circulated 241,651 photos and 86,618 videos, including those of minors.
Zubair Ali was remanded in custody for 15 days by the Criminal Court on August 30 while Nasif Ali and Ismail Rabeeh were also remanded in custody for 15 day by the Criminal Court on September 5.
Fourteen electronic devices were seized from them, police said.
Police have appealed to victims of blackmailing using nude photos and videos to share information with the cyber crime center by contacting 9136262.
