Male’, Maldives (September 8): Maldives and Kyrgyzstan have both secured their second wins and will now vie for the top spot in the league round of the CAVA Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup 2024.

The host nation, Maldives, began with a straight-sets victory over Afghanistan and then triumphed 3-1 against Tajikistan in their second match. Kyrgyzstan, on the other hand, won their opening match against Tajikistan and continued their strong performance with a 3-0 win over Afghanistan.

In their match against Tajikistan, Maldives dominated early, winning the first two sets 25-18 and 25-12. However, adjustments made by the Maldives team allowed Tajikistan to claim the third set 25-21. Maldives regained their momentum and secured the fourth set 25-16 to clinch the match. Setter Joozan Zareer played a crucial role with her composed performance, enabling the attackers, including Shaha Shamin, Hawwa Rashidha, and Aishath Maajidha, to perform effectively.

This achievement marks a historic moment for the Maldives National Women’s Volleyball team, as they have won consecutive international matches on home soil.

The final league match will determine which team finishes on top. The winner will face the lowest-ranked team from the league round in the semi-finals, while the second and third-place teams will compete in the other semi-final. The championship match is scheduled for Wednesday night.
