Seven people have been charged with assault with the intent to murder former Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem.
The Prosecutor General's (PG) office said in a statement that the charges were filed in the Criminal Court on August 22. Shameem was attacked on January 31.
The suspects are Midhuhath Adam, Mohamed Jazlan, Ahmed Maisan Hashim, Rajuwan Latheef, Shamal Hussain, Abaan Abdul Hannaan and Zayan Naseer.
They were all charged with attempted murder with a dangerous weapon.
Midhuhath Adam was charged with assaulting Shameem. Mohamed Jazlan was charged with trying to escape from the scene with the attacker while Maisan Hashim was charged with providing the cycle used by the two men to escape.
The other four were charged with planning to attack Shameem, staying in a car until the attack was over and then leaving the area with the attackers.
Shameem was attacked by two men on a motorcycle on January 31. He sustained a bone fracture after he was struck with a hammer, the PG office said at the time.
