Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud in Riyadh today on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry said Minister Zameer presented a letter from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

"During the meeting, both Ministers reflected on the close ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, which are rooted in the common Islamic heritage, shared values and principles," the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry added that they also discussed the holding of the first round of bilateral political consultations between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia at a mutually convenient time.

Zameer was accompanied to the meeting by Ambassador-at-Large Ahmed Naseer, Joint Secretary Badoora Saeed, Director General Aishath Fareena and Chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of the Maldives in Saudi Arabia Ahmed Fazeel.

The Foreign Minister began his official visit to Saudi Arabia after visiting Bahrain and meeting with the country's leaders and the leaders of Dhiraagu's majority shareholder, Batelco. Zameer also took a letter from the President to the King of Bahrain. A few days earlier, he had visited China and presented a letter from the President.

Although a letter from the President had been sent to some leaders, the purpose of these letters is unclear. The President's Office has so far refused to provide details of the letters.
