Male', Maldives (August 19): The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has announced the cancellation of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), which were scheduled to take place in November in Thailand.
The Maldives Olympic Committee announced the cancellation in a statement released tonight.
The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), which were set to be held in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand, from November 21 to 30, 2024, have been officially cancelled.
This decision follows an emergency meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Executive Board, which resolved that the event could not proceed due to unmet critical Host City Contract (HCC) requirements.
"Despite an extended deadline given to the Organizing Committee to address these issues, sadly the necessary criteria were not fulfilled, leading to the formal cancellation of the event. The MOC acknowledges the disappointment this may cause to athletes and supporters but affirms its support for the OCA's decision, prioritizing the integrity and proper management of the Games." Maldives Olympic Committee mentioned in their statement.
The last edition of the AIMAG took place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in 2017. Thailand was originally set to host the games in 2021, but the event was postponed due to numerous delays and unforeseen circumstances.
The next edition of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the dates to be confirmed soon. Riyadh will also host the upcoming Islamic Solidarity Games.
