President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met the Presidential Youth Advisory Board at the President's Office on Monday.
The meeting was held after the inauguration of the Presidential Youth Advisory Board. At the event, the President handed over badges to members of the board.
At the inaugural meeting held after the ceremony, the President underscored the primary objective of establishing the National Advisory Committee on Youth.
He emphasized that the youth represent the largest demographic in the country, making it crucial for them to actively participate in the governance and overall development of the nation.
"The youth constitute the largest percentage of the country's population. It is very important for the youth to have a say in running a country and government and shaping everything else in the state," he said.
He also urged the youth to share their perspectives and visions, as this initiative takes its course.
During the meeting, the board members conveyed their gratitude to the President for providing the youth with the opportunity to engage in national affairs.
The President was briefed on the board's plans to heed the concerns and sentiments of youth across various regions of the country.
The purpose of the National Youth Advisory Committee is to seek the views and consultations of the youth in the implementation of the government's manifesto and key policies and to advise the President on how to proceed.
The committee also aims to identify and discuss the obstacles and challenges to youth development in various fields and to advise the President on how to work towards solutions at the national and regional levels.
The committee has a total of 15 members. They are two members appointed by the President, two national-level athletes, two from arts and crafts, two from youth empowerment, four from areas designated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and three from the university student union presidents.
