President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that he would not allow anything that goes against the foreign policy of the Maldives government.
He said this in response to whether the government would allow the 'India Out' campaign launched by the Progressive Party of Maldives-People's National Congress (PPM-PNC) coalition when they were in the opposition.
In an exclusive interview with Adhadhu on Sunday after a meeting with the Male' city council, President Muizzu said the people voted for him because they accepted his foreign policy and that the country will continue under that foreign policy.
The President then said that this country needs peace, development and security.
"Things in this country must go forward in a way that ensures those three things. Maldivian people will not allow anyone to take away the stability of this country, to stop the development of this country, to undermine the security and independence of this country," he stated.
He added that the government's foreign policy is to work with all the countries.
When questioned whether he would repeal the 'India Out' resolution, President Muizzu did not respond directly. He also declined to comment on whether the 'India Out' movement would not be allowed.
"I have just stated my policy, the policy of the Maldives' government. I have clarified the policy. I have answered all the questions very clearly," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the leaders behind the 'India Out' movement former President Abdulla Yameen has announced that the campaign would continue as he does not believe Indian military personnel had departed from the Maldives.
Speaking to reporters after the High Court quashed the 11-year jail sentence handed down to him, Yameen said the Indian military presence issue had not been solved and that he would continue the 'India Out' campaign.
He also criticized the government for not cancelling the 'India Out' resolution after coming to power.
