Defense Ministry begins forum to discuss efforts against extremism

The Defense Ministry has launched a forum to discuss the efforts against extremism and terrorism.

The two-day talks "United for a Peaceful and Resilient Maldives" began on Tuesday. Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon is chairing the talks.

Senior officials of the defense ministry, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem and senior officials from the Home Ministry, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Counter Terrorism Center are participating in the talks.

In a post on social media, the defense ministry that the forum is aimed at sharing information on counter-terrorism efforts and discussing policy formulation.

Discussions will also be to identify ways in which the Maldives and international agencies can work against extremism.
