The Minister of Communications at the President's Office, Ibrahim Khaleel, was dismissed from his post today.
Adhadhu understands that Khaleel was the first official to be removed from office today. When contacted for comment regarding the matter, Khaleel did not answer his phone.
In addition to Khaleel, the Minister at the President's Office, Ali Arif, resigned yesterday. The reason for his resignation has not been disclosed.
Eight cabinet ministers have resigned from their positions today. They include Minister of Defence Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Youth Ibrahim Waheed, Minister of Cities Adam Shareef, Minister of Tourism Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Health Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Agriculture Maryam Mariya, and Minister of Gender Aishath Shiham.
Adhadhu has received information that all these officials resigned following instructions from the President's Office.
The removal of these ministers follows the government's defeat in the two elections and the public referendum held on April 4. Following that loss, during a meeting held at the presidential residence, Mulee'aage on April 5, President Mohamed Muizzu placed the blame for the failure on PNC MPs and his cabinet ministers.
During that meeting, Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer spoke about the importance of taking the results positively and moving forward by rectifying existing issues. However, Muizzu reportedly reacted with anger, telling Zameer, "Do not try to make me see it any other way."
