Three expatriates were detained by Immigration today while preparing food in unhygienic conditions in a dilapidated house.
Immigration said the three were arrested following a tip-off through the Immigration Watch portal, which is set up to report undocumented foreign workers.
Police detained the three individuals and released photos of the house.
The photos show they prepared local snacks like kudhi gulha and athu jehi in unhygienic conditions. Packets of theluli faiy and killi were also prepared in the house. These are items which are usually available in local markets and stores.
"Since a large number of food items usually purchased by Maldivians from stores were found during the raid, this has been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities," the Immigration said in a post on X.
Several such places have been raided in the past in the ongoing operations to track down illegal immigrants. Many of the detained expatriates have now been deported.
