Two foreign women have been detained by the Maldives Immigration for alleged involvement in large-scale prostitution.
They were arrested in a special operation conducted by the Immigration Task Force on a tip-off received by police intelligence.
Immigration said the two women were of Vietnamese nationality. However, no further details were given.
The police and immigration are jointly working to identify and deport undocumented workers and expatriates involved in illegal businesses or crimes.
About 50 expatriates involved in doing business unlawfully were recently detained by immigration while foreigners involved in the black market dollar trade are also being deported.
