The linked islands of Addu have faced a power outage after a power cable was damaged while digging for road construction.

Adhadhu understands that the electricity service was disrupted on Monday afternoon and the service had not resumed by Monday evening.

Fenaka Managing Director Muaz Mohamed Rasheed told Adhadhu that the power outage occurred due to damage to an HV main cable during the construction of roads.

He said that the Fenaka team was working to resolve the issue and power will be restored in the coming hours.

"An HV main cable was damaged while AFCONS workers were digging for road construction. Power was cut off in all the linked islands. We are hoping to resolve the problem and restore power within the next few hours," Muaz said.

There have been growing complaints over frequent power and water service interruptions in Addu and Fenaka said a solution can be found after an ongoing project is completed.

Addu Mayor Ali Nizar has also expressed concern over the disruption of electricity and water services.
