The President's Office has transferred a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking details of the Addu bridge project to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.
Adhadhu submitted the RTI request to the President's Office under the Right to Information Act. It contained three main questions.
- What is the progress update of the Addu bridge project?
- When will the practical work for the bridge project begin?
- What is the total cost of the bridge project?
Instead of responding to these questions, the President’s Office said the request has been forwarded to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.
According to the law, if an agency does not have the requested information, the request must be transferred to an agency that can provide the details.
However, President Mohamed Muizzu is the government official who provides updates related to major projects connected to his pledges.
This means the President's Office will be in possession of key information related to the bridge project in the second largest city.
Muizzu previously said the project will begin in 2024. But in his visit to Addu in November 2025, Muizzu said work for the 15-km bridge will begin in 2026.

Muizzu said a company will be contracted to build the bridge based on the best design proposed by the Chinese company.
Beginning the work during the first 100 days in office was included in the government’s “Hafthaa 14” (14 Weeks) roadmap.
