A foreigner who died on Monday night while undergoing treatment at the Tree Top Hospital was a worker at the Thilamale' bridge and not the Sinamale' bridge as previously stated, police have said.
The Indian national had been mistakenly identified as a Sinamale' bridge worker, police clarified.
The man was taken to hospital after he fainted and lost consciousness at the ground level. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, police said, citing officials from the Tree Top Hospital.
The 6.7 kilometre bridge to connect four islands in the Male' region is under construction by India's Afcons company.
Financed with loans from the Indian Exim Bank and divided into two phases, the project was contracted to the company to be completed by May 2024. However, after work fell behind schedule due to various reasons, the new completion date for connection up to Thilafushi is September 2026.
