Electricity cables from some decorative lights set up at the Republic Square for Eid Al-Adha have been stolen.

The cables from the lights in front of the main headquarters of the police and military were stolen on Friday night, police said.

Male’ Mayor Adam Azim told Adhadhu that it was regrettable that the state of the nation has deteriorated to such an extent. Such incidents were repeating because of the failure to enforce the law, he said.

“The city council has reported this case to the police. We call [on the authorities] to swiftly investigate the case and find the criminals,” Azim said.

The theft of electricity cables from the Green Zone, the area with the highest security in Male’, comes after cycles parked in the Green Zone were torched in the early hours of June 3.
