A man who sprayed "terrorists" and "child killers" on the wall of the American Center in Male' has been summoned to the police followed by the launching of an investigation.
Ahmed Sobah wrote in a post on X that his graffiti on the American Center wall was an artwork in protest of the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and to show support for the Palestinian people.
Sobah said a complaint had been lodged against him to the police. His lawyer Hamza Khaleel had said that his client is an artist and the wall graffiti shows an opinion he had expressed as an artist.
"We call upon the Prosecutor General's Office to look at this in the light of Human Rights and Freedom of Expression. He only hurt feelings," Khaleel wrote in a post on X.
A police comment was unavailable at the time of publishing.
The United States is the main supporter of Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people. The United States provides Israel with weapons and financial assistance.
The United States is also working against the request for an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
More than 36,439 people have been killed in the Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023.
