Aasandha company has said that preparations are still ongoing for sending people through Aasandha health insurance scheme to seek medical treatment in Thailand and UAE.
Speaking at a press briefing of the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Aasandha CEO Aminath Zeeniya said preparations are still ongoing for sending people to Thailand and UAE.
She said that the company was looking at ways to send Maldivians to other countries without relying on Sri Lanka and India for medical treatment as announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
"The President wishes to find places where better health services are available overseas and send the people to get treatment that is not available in Maldives,” she said.
On January 17, Aasandha said the company was working with the relevant agencies to make the necessary arrangements to send patients for treatment in Thailand and UAE.
However, the health insurance scheme has not expanded beyond India and Sri Lanka.
President Muizzu announced efforts to send patients for treatment in UAE and Thailand while speaking to the press at the airport after concluding a visit to China earlier this year.
Responding to a question at a meeting of Parliament’s State-owned Enterprises Committee on December 17, Zeeniya said the company did not have plans to expand Aasandha coverage and that sending patients overseas would be a financial burden.
