Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer is scheduled to visit India next week, according to Indian media reports.

Zameer will reportedly arrive in India on May 9. This is the first official visit to India by a senior official of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government.

A senior government official confirmed to Adhadhu that Zameer and a delegation from the Foreign Ministry will visit India next week.

The first official visits of all former Presidents since the new Constitution came into force in 2008 were made to India.

However, President Muizzu acted in contravention of the tradition and made his first official visit to Turkey followed by China.

After the visit to China, President Muizzu criticized India while three deputy ministers also insulted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

Meanwhile, an agreement had also been signed with India for the removal of Indian troops from Maldives and replace them with Indian civilians.

However, the agreement secret has been classified because it may "pose a threat to national security."

The government recently said that Indian military teams operating two aircraft have been replaced by civilians.

This comes as relations between Maldives and India have deteriorated since President Muizzu came to power while closer ties are being formed with China.
