A 14-year-old boy who lives in a Meemu atoll island stole a speedboat from the island’s lagoon and travelled to Hulhumale’ to meet his girlfriend.
The vessel belonged to the Cinnamon Hakura resort in the atoll, Adhadhu has learned. The boy stole the launch and came to Hulhumale’ in the early hours of Wednesday.
The absence of the speedboat was reported to the police when it was found to be missing in the morning, an island council employee told Adhadhu. Police later found the boat in the Hulhumale’ harbour.
“A young boy who lives on this island, he is 14 years old, he heard that his girlfriend was suffering abuses from her family [and went to Hulhumale’] to confirm it and if it was the case, to save her from it,” the council employee said.
