Seven suspects have been arrested and remanded pending trial over Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem's assault with a hammer.
Police said the Criminal Court remanded all seven suspects for the duration of the trial. All suspects were Maldivian men, police added.
They were arrested on different occasions as the investigation progressed, police said, adding that further investigations were underway.
Shameem was attacked by two men on a motorcycle on January 31. He sustained a bone fracture after he was struck with a hammer, the PG office said at the time.
At a press conference held earlier, police said the investigation had identified that this was a deliberate and planned attack.
Adhadhu understands that the first two suspects in custody belong to a gang in Male'. The number plate of their cycle had been changed for the attack and the suspects wore helmets and masks to conceal their faces, a source with knowledge of the incident told Adhadhu.
