Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir's alleged threats and intimidation of a Maldivian seaplane pilot has been reported to the police by the airline.
A video of Jabir using obscene language and threatening a Maldivian crew and pilot on a seaplane platform started circulating on social media on Wednesday afternoon. Jabir could also be heard making death threats against the Maldivian pilot in the video.
A Maldivian media official told Adhadhu that the incident has been reported and that the case was under investigation by the company and the police.
According to some media reports, Jabir has been banned from traveling on Maldivian planes. But the Maldivian official said the company was duly taking matters into consideration before taking specific action.
Several members of the public called for Jabir's arrest and removal from Parliament after the video started circulating on social media.
The leaked video came after the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) expelled Jabir and barred him from contesting on the party's ticket for the upcoming parliamentary elections for the 20th People's Majlis.
Jabir was expelled from the MDP for using vulgar language against social norms in interactions with the public and for repeatedly acting against public interest, the party said.
