Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the assault of Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem.
Police have yet to announce the arrests.
A reliable source confirmed to Adhadhu that the first suspect was arrested with a court order last night and that the second suspect was arrested today. Their identities are not yet known.
Shameem was assaulted on Wednesday morning as he tried to enter his house after parking his cycle. He was struck on the left forearm with a hammer. The ADK hospital treated him for a bone fracture and put his left arm in a plaster.
Shameem was attacked by two masked assailants who drove past on a cycle, police said.
The suspects in custody belong to a gang in Male', Adhadhu has learned. The number plate of their cycle had been changed for the attack and the suspects wore helmets and masks to conceal their faces, a source with knowledge of the incident told Adhadhu.
Police are investigating the assault as a serious case.
