Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem has been assaulted and hospitalized with injuries.
A PG office official told Adhadhu that Shameem was attacked this morning and that he was undergoing treatment at the ADK hospital.
Shameem's assault was reported this morning and it did not appear to have involved a knife or sharp object, police said.
Adhadhu has learned that Shameem was attacked with a hammer as he tried to enter his house after parking his cycle. He was struck on the left forearm, Adhadhu learned.
He was undergoing treatment at ADK for a bone fracture on the left arm but the extent of the injury was unclear.
"It was reported today that a person attacked PG Hussain Shameem on the road in Male'. PG Hussain Shameem is being treated at ADK. He was not attacked with a sharp object, the investigation so far has found," police said in a message to the media.
The motive for Shameem's assault was not known and the assailant has not been arrested yet.
But police said the investigation was ongoing.
