The government is working to complete handing over registries of flats and plots of land awarded under the previous government's housing schemes to the recipients by the end of next week, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said today.

Amid a protest today over the delay in handing over the registries, President Muizzu said in a post on social media X that "work is ongoing on completing handing over registries during this week and next week."

"Making registries and handing over plots/flats to the recipients of plots and flats included in the final list gazetted will go ahead as I have pledged," the President said. "The Housing Ministry will carry out the work of completing the handover of registries during this week and next week."

As land plots had been awarded in some cases from unreclaimed land, the President said reclamation work was proceeding swiftly. Preparations were also underway for further land reclamation in Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru, he said.

About 15 people protested inside the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over the delay in handing over the registries for land plots and flats. The commission is looking into some complaints involving the housing schemes.

The protesters carried boards stating their demands and called on the President to respect his pledge to hand over the plot and flat registries.
