President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the importance of standing together in the Islamic faith in his speech on the occasion of National Unity Day.
National Unity Day is marked on December 26 every year to commemorate the unity shown by the people during the tsunami crisis in 2004.
“Allah has bestowed all the qualities of unity on the people of Maldives. We are fortunate to be guided by a single religion, we have the honor of speaking the same language, we have the joy of writing in the same letters, we share the same culture and the security of being united through a single race,” Muizzu said.
The President said that all these things are blessings given to the people of Maldives and we should always be grateful for those blessings.
Muizzu said our history shows the unity and solidarity of Maldivians and called on the people to maintain the same connection.
The President was accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed at the official function to mark National Unity Day at Dharubaaruge.
Earlier on Tuesday, he joined in the observation of a minute of silence to mark the unity displayed by Maldivians during the 2004 tsunami.
The minute of silence was observed at 9:23 am, the recorded time the Tsunami hit the Maldives in 2004.
