Discussions are underway between the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Democrats.
Adhadhu understands that leaders of the two parties are attending meetings in a resort close to Male' city.
Democrats President and Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef said the party always discusses various issues with the MDP.
He said several some party leaders are out of the city for parliamentary and other political activities. He did not give further details.
The Democrats' parliamentary group leader Ali Azim also confirmed that the MDP and the Democrats are in talks. He said the current discussions are aimed at "improving" the political situation.
"In the elections held since the Green Constitution came into force, the people have always voted to remove someone from power. We are discussing changing that," Azim explained.
The rules for the impeachment of the President and Vice President were amended recently with changes to the order and time limits of the process.
However, it has not yet been sent to the floor. The motion is expected to be passed by the MDP majority parliament next week.
