The state has raised 201 criminal charges against two suspects over the fraudulent sale of K Park Residence apartments to several buyers.

The Prosecutor General’s (PG) office on Tuesday filed 104 charges against prime suspect Hassan Mamdhooh (Mandey) and 98 charges against Jaishan Saeed.

Mandey collected payments from several people before the K Park Residence apartments were completed. The case also involves the sale of the same apartment to multiple buyers.

The PG office said on Wednesday that the charges raised against Mandey and Jaishan were related to 51 victims of the scam. The state also sought compensation for their losses, it added.

"Compensation for damages was also requested for the people who faced losses in relation to the 201 charges filed at present," the PG office said.

The PG office pressed five types of charges against Mandey and Jaishan, including deception, fraud and money laundering.

Details of charges raised against Mandey

  • Three counts of deliberately providing false documentation with the intention of fraud
  • 50 counts of theft by deception
  • 50 counts of committing an act of fraud
  • One count of money laundering

Details of charges raised against Jaishan

  • Three counts of deliberately providing false documentation with the intention of fraud
  • 20 counts of theft by deception
  • 27 counts of aiding theft by deception

The investigation of the scam was led by police investigators with instructions and technical advice from the PG office's Economic and Financial Crime Unit and the Maldives Monetary Authority's (MMA) Financial Intelligence Unit.

Other parts of the K Park Residence scam are also under investigation, the PG office said, adding that a decision on raising further charges would be made after the cases are concluded.

"The Maldives Police Service is investigating additional parts related to this scheme. This office will make a decision on raising further charges in this case after a review when the investigation is completed and the cases are forwarded to this office," the PG office said.
