About 225 charges will be raised against Hassan Mamdhooh (Mandey) next week over the alleged theft of payments from the fraudulent sale of K Park Residence apartments to multiple buyers, Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem said today.

The K Park project was carried out in Hulhumale' phase one by the Hanbo Maldives company formed in partnership with Korea's Hanbo company. Mandey is the minority shareholder of Hanbo Maldives. His case came to light amid concern by apartment buyers over the delay in finishing the K Park apartments.

Briefing the press, Shameem said charges will be filed against Mandey next week. The charges include:

  • False documentation
  • Fraud
  • Theft by deception
  • Money laundering

Providing details about the charges, Shameem said the large number of charges was due to the decision to file separate charges for each of the victims of Mandey's scam.

Based on information gathered so far, 41 apartments were known to have been sold to 107 people, Shaheem said. Charges will be raised in cases where the investigation has been concluded, he added.

MVR 7 million worth of goods in Mandey's penthouse!

Shameem explained in detail the reason for pressing money laundering charges against Mandey.

The money laundering charges stem from a penthouse purchased from the FW Residence in Hulhumale'.

Citing investigation findings, PG Shameem said the penthouse valued at MVR 7.8 million had been purchased with the proceeds from the sale of two K Park apartments to four buyers.

Items worth MVR 7 million were seized from the penthouse, including 200 unopened perfume bottles, handbags worth MVR 90,000, and jewelry worth USD 10,000 and USD 25,000, Shameem said.

The total cost of the penthouse and seized assets was MVR 14.8 million.
