The State Trading Organization (STO) has reduced the price of oil for the first time in six months.

STO, a majority stake of which is owned by the government, is the main importer of oil in the Maldives. With effect on December 8, petrol and diesel sold at STO subsidiary Fuel Supply Maldives’ fuel sheds will be respectively MVR 0.45 and MVR 0.40 lower, the company announced on Thursday.

As a result of the changes, the price of petrol fell to MVR 14.33 per liter and the price of diesel was down to MVR 14.62 per liter.

  • June 9, 2023: MVR 14.73 per liter of petrol and MVR 15.07 per liter of diesel
  • May 1, 2023: MVR 15.14 per liter of petrol and MVR 15.70 per liter of diesel
  • August 18, 2022: MVR 15.97 per liter of petrol and MVR 16.32 per liter of diesel
  • June 24, 2022: MVR 16.55 per liter of petrol and MVR 16.77 per liter of diesel
