The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on Monday donated more than half a million Rufiyaa to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinian people suffering hardship in Gaza.

The donations were made to two funds set up to help Palestine, which were the "Palestine Relief Fund" of the Maldives Red Crescent (MRC) and the "Gaza Emergency Relief" fund of the International Aid Campaign (IAC).

MPL donated MVR 500,000 to the "Palestine Relief Fund" and MVR 65,000 to the "Gaza Emergency Relief" fund.

The donations were made on behalf of the company and staff, MPL said.

MPL also said that it has decided to set up fund boxes at various port locations and assured full cooperation and assistance from the company and staff to various fundraising activities taking place in the Maldives.

Several fundraising activities are continuing in the Maldives to provide assistance to Palestinian people suffering as a result of Israeli attacks against Gaza. Maldivians have donated MVR 24 million in total to IAC's "Gaza Emergency Relief" fund to date.
