President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday met the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar.
Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef also joined the meeting, which took place at the President-elect's office at Muizzu's residence Maafannu Dhimyaath.
The pair discussed strengthening bilateral ties, according to the President-elect's office.
The Indian High Commissioner said he hoped diplomatic relations with India could be restored to the basis of respect for sovereignty and that the age-old India-Maldives ties could be further strengthened and elevated to new heights.
The High Commissioner also assured full cooperation with the decision of the Maldivian people to protect the country's independence and sovereignty and expressed hope that easier arrangements could be made with repaying loans taken by the outgoing administration, according to the President-elect's office.
The Indian High Commissioner was the third ambassador that Muizzu met with since his election as president. Earlier in the day, he met with British High Commissioner Caron Rohsler and Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin.
