The People's National Congress (PNC) campaign Spokesperson Mohamed Tholal has declined to comment on the Democrats' participation in the new government to be formed by President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Democrats Chairperson MP Hassan Latheef on Sunday night posted on social media that the Democrats will participate in the new government. But he refused to provide details when contacted by Adhadhu.

When questioned on Monday morning, Tholal told Adhadhu that he had not received any information that such a discussion had taken place.

"We have not received such information yet. If such a decision is to be taken, Dr. Muizzu will announce it," he stated.

The Democrats finished third in the first round of the presidential election. However, the party's interim council decided not to support any candidate in the second round.

In a separate post on social media, Hassan said the Democrats will consult with the Progressive Party of Maldives-People's National Congress (PPM-PNC) coalition for the planned referendum on the system of government.

But the PPM-PNC has not yet commented on the matter.
